Large Tescos opposite the bridge, with moorings.

Paddle Point

By bridge on minor road just south of Saddington Tunnel

Room for some wayside parking
this point is miss placed, this road actually goes over the tunnel and would be a long portage to reach the canal in either direction.the point is on the Saddington to Smeaton Westerby road.

Marks the change from Grand Union Canal to Soar Navigation

Paddle Point

Can portage between the River Soar and Canal at this point and again at Soar Valley Way bridge

O/s shows this lock as Blue Bank Lock and Gees Lock as the next lock to the south.I imagine that it must be named after a bank of blue clay close by.
Paddle Point

O/S maps show this as Gees Lock .As this lock is between Narborough and Glen Parva Whetstone seems wrong anyway.

Lane is called Cork Lane to the North of this lock and gets to Blaby before Whetstone,so may actualy be Cork Lane Lock?

The Pirate Castle http://www.thepiratecastle.org/

Based on the Regents Canal, the crew of the Pirate Castle warmly welcome people from all ages and walks of life to share their expertise and enthusiasm of water-based activities, and have devoted themselves to doing so for the past 40 years.

The Pirate Castle was originally a centre for the provision of water-based activities, but these days four full-time staff and a dedicated team of coaches and volunteers provide an impressive array of inclusive community activities and training opportunities on both water and land.

If water level is high its able to pass both ways but when low its best to hop out your kayak. Centre segment carries the strongest flow. (Flow is head towards Cossington)

In August, water level so low, the concrete weir on either side of the centre segment was exposed and I was able to climb on top and dump my boat the other side. Good job as could not see anywhere to portage.
Paddle Point

Tree fallen on the left, ensure you stay as far right as possible when going down the weir. It does flat 3/4 of the way down to get a couple of paddle strokes to the right

There is a spot here where you can launch. The property is private but unused on a Sunday except for the occasional fisherman. The bit where you will put in links directly to the canal downstream of the Cowley lock.

I used this as an alternative on a Sunday when the marina opposite was closed.

Paddle Point

Nice small camp site with small toilets/showers and washing up block.

launching onto the canal is either over a fence(from the site) down by the canal bridge (steep steps) or from a lay-by, on the opposite side of the canal, involving a 50 mtr walk (from the bridge) along a busy main road (no foot path).

A nice canal paddle either to Leighton Buzzard (South 3 miles) past the Three Locks Pub or Milton Keynes (North 5 miles)

Round trip of about 8 miles from Uxbridge to Southall.

Lunch / brew stop at Bull's Bridge, which is the junction between the main line of the Grand Union Canal and the Paddington Arm. You can either sit by the pretty whitewashed bridge, or on the other side of the canal pop into Tesco's and use their cafe and other facilities.

Paddle Point

A nice peaceful paddle along the summit section of the canal.

You can extend this along the old Wendover arm for a while if you want to, by turning left under the bridge below the lock at the turn around point.

Paddle Point

Put in either side of lock.

Limited parking on the small lane north of the bridge. Please park considerately.

Not likely to score high marks in any beer guide, the Coy Carp (a long time ago it was The Fisheries Inn) however is on the canal bank, has a formulaic menu and a large car park. Worth a courtesy pint/lunch if you have been using the parking facilities.
