Canoeing and Kayaking on : Bassenthwaite Lake

Please do not paddle in the southern end of Bassenthwaite Lake, due to restrictions due to wildlife.

It is permissable to paddle from the Middle Derwent taking the fastest route north along the shore before crossing the lake outside of the zone.

Paddle Point

Access point on Bassenthwaite Lake, with parking across the very busy road by the junction.

A permit is required to paddle on the Lake, and restrictions may apply. More info in this excellent, downloadable leaflet.

Permits available from the Castle Inn not the Pheasant as indicated in the downloadable leaflet. Car park at Peel Wyke is an easy put in slip or 'quayside'. Interesting place to paddle, yes there is road noise, but this is not intrusive. Road can barely be seen thorough the vegetation between lake & road.
Signs at Peel Wyke and other car parks lists all outlets selling permits.
Paddle Point

Excellent launch point accessed from the road leaving the A66 to the Pheasant Inn, then turning down lane to a small car park. The lake is accessed easily UNDER the A66.
