Usually OK a couple of hours either side of high tide, but beyond that you'll sink in the mud.

Park at Riverside Country Park but beware of car park closing times!

Simple launch from slipway below lock, on bend between bridge and level crossing.

Limited parking available in unused gateways, may become unusable at some point. Parking along road towards Yalding and the Anchor Inn.

Hempstead to Teston - afternoons out and return. Regards Peter http://youtu.be/tEQn_1918g8

This splits nicely into a 2 day trip, camping near Yalding. One option being the Hop Farm campsite.

Nice easy 1-2 hour paddle with one portage at Hampstead lock.
Either get out at Teapot Island or shoot the weir.

Car parking right next to the launch site (£2.50 per day)

If you launch at Yalding try to look up this River tributary - not many seem to go here - different world if you give it a try... Regards Peter http://youtu.be/CKN0RPd9Qr0
Canoe slipway from The Lees car park which costs £2.50 per day.

Paddle Point

Put in to the backwater behind an island. For patrons of the Hop Farm Campsite, but guests may also launch for free if permission sought.
If camping here, ask for the pitches down by the Medway and mention you are paddling.

A "there and back" route from the Hop Farm campsite, taking you down to Yalding (pub & tea shop), then down a little further before turning up the River Beult for a pleasant diversion up a smaller stream until you reach a small weir. Return the same way.
There are a few options:
From the launch you can paddle the jungle-like backwater or out and round the island on the river itself.
Just downstream is Sluice Weir, which has the most adventurous of the Medway's canoe passes. Great fun, but it is normal to take on water here.
At Tea Pot Island, it is possible to portage the weir on river right and get in on the small stream which enters between the weir and road bridge. You can then paddle out under the bridge. HOWEVER, if the weir is opened, this is a whitewater play spot and the flow will be fast and turbulent, so the relevant skills and judgment are required.

This lock is part of the Medway Canoe Trail and as such has a purpose built canoe pass on river left. Recently water issues have meant this pass has been closed quite often, meaning you have to portage - which is a little awkward.

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail, this lock has an excellent canoe pass (slide) on river right. Or you can portage the lock using purpose built platforms.

Paddle Point

Another lock on the Medway Canoe Trail. From upstream, head left before weir and the optional canoe pass is then on your right. Or carry on and portage the lock using purpose built stages.

Paddle Point

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail. Portage using the purpose built landing stages, or more fun, slide down the canoe pass.

Oak Weir canoe Pass
Paddle Point

A large camping facility that allows camping right by the Medway - ask them for details. Has various events/festivals on, so check in advance. Friendly and reasonable value for the south east. Splits the Medway Canoe Trail neatly in to 2 days.

Paddle Point

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail. This lock can be portaged river left. Alternatively you can use the canoe shoot on the river right side of the weir. Note that this is older and much steeper and faster than the other recent canoe passes on the Medway. It is normal to ship significant amounts of water if in an open canoe. Take care if the weir gates are open.

Has a canoe pass but is quite steep!
Paddle Point

The Medway canoe trail suggests this location for camping. Truly a wildcamping location, there are no facilities here, not even road access. Free

When passing under the bridge, always use the center span. The side spans are shallow and are "mined" with sharp debris just below the surface from the nearby industrial premises

Paddle Point

A cafe with large garden. possible to come ashore from the main river above the wier or the side stream just below

Paddle Point

a pub/restaurant overlooking the wier. please do not obstruct the lock cut

Paddle Point

Purpose built canoe put in which is part of the Medway Canoe Trail.
Roadside parking next to it can get busy.

Canal that runs alongside Hampstead lane and towards Hampstead Lock:

Paddle Point

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail. Portage is purpose built, but slightly awkward as you have to carry over the lock gates.

Hampstead lock portage platforms
Paddle Point

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail. Purpose built portage platforms.

The new fish - canoe pass is open (Jul/Aug 2013) Great fun - well done Environment Agency for opening up the river with all the canoe passes on this river.
Teston Lock Canoe pass; easy and fun.

Paddle Point
East Farleigh, Kent, UK

Part of the Medway Canoe Trail. Purpose built portage platforms on river left.

The Malta inn is just over the weir footbridge from the Allington lock put inn and camping area. A "Beefeater" type pub.

This is the put in at the downstream end of the Medway Canoe Trail, a fantastic facility that has made the River Medway one of the best places to paddle in the south east.
Parking, toilets and put in all right next to the lock. Purpose built put in.

Camping is also available here with showers and washing up sink, Phone 01622 752864 to book.
Great launch site - went from here to Teston and back http://youtu.be/MaWgkV8wJTI
