Rivers
Canoeing and Kayaking on : River Torridge

Paddle Point

Not the easiest place to put in, but a handy start point for a paddle down to Beaford 9 miles(ish). When the river is running high launch here rather than from Sheepwash bridge to avoid the narrow section of river which can be hazardous. Drop the boat/gear by the bridge. There is parking for 3 cars in a lay by 100M North of the bridge

Paddle Point

29/12/2013 Strainer caused by very large tree and debris across full width of the bridge This bridge is immediately above Beam weir.Egress river left just before bridge, using short length of green rope tied to tree on the bank under large overhanging branch to assist. This has been reported to the EA but they say it is not a priority as it is a private bridge on private land. Unless it becomes a flooding hazard it may well be there some time.

Paddle Point

Highest'agreed'Put in on the Torridge. Limited layby parking 2/3 cars max. Launch here for a superb paddle down to Beaford Bridge. around 14 miles

Paddle Point

easy launch by bridge with some roadside parking. There is a weir just below the launch that can usually be run down the fish steps on the right. Portage is on the left very close to the sill. take care in high conditions. Centre of weir best avoided.

Paddle Point

Superb put in and take out with wooden landing stage and easy access to loads of parking. The Puffing Billy pub is usually closed.

Paddle Point

Dangerous in most conditions. In low water levels boats can be carried over the sill on the right side of the weir. In high conditions there is a short length of green rope tied to a small tree, river left 20M before the bridge. look for the overhanging branch go under it and use rope to aid getting up awkward bank. Carry gear under bridge over gate and re launch below weir

Easy launching at any state of tide. and loads of pay and display parking.
There is also a slipway at the other end of the car park but thick mud makes it unusable other than an hour or so either side of HW

Excellent parking (pay and display) and launching (free for canoes). The tide floods approx 3.5 hrs before HW. launch and use the tide to take you up to Bideford and beyond. Return on the ebb. Heading seawards from here is only for experienced paddlers with local knowledge almost essential, due to strong tides sandbanks etc.
