Rivers
Canoeing and Kayaking on : River Yeo

Paddle Point

Found this by following my nose and the map. Parking is difficult but possible. Someone (not me!) has opened the metal fence to the side of the road bridge which gives quick and easy access to the water.
Hi Mike, I am going to be in the Yeovil area over Christmas and would like to paddle the Yeo when I am there. I was down there in the summer and noticed the river at the back of Mole Valley Farmers but I couldn't find a 'Put In' nearby. Has anyone been down the Yeovil section? Info on 'Put Ins' and 'Outs' would be appreciated. I know its quite narrow but would like to try and make it through the town if possible.

Place to start or end by Environment Agency pumping station. It's about 100 or 150 yards across the field from the road, but on a public footpath, so no access issues. You can park by the bridge on the side of the road. Park in tight to the verge as it's quite a busy road.

Paddle Point

Park where the cross is, or try your luck in the pub along the road. The launch or land spot is marked, 100 - 150 yards from the road.

There are some narrow stone steps to the water right next to the road bridge on the west side of the road. Launch here my be possible but difficult. Parking realistically restricted to one vehicle (on a busy road).
Paddle Point

Approachable from both directions, it's difficult to say how easy this is to pass, as it depends on water level and overgrowth on banks. Well worth looking at from the water if you know you intend passing it in the near future. maybe take your shears? There is a lane from the A372 to this site, but it may be gated.

Animal drinking place near to road where it's pretty easy to launch or land onto the River Yeo. The river is sometimes quite shallow in drier times, but always runs to the West from this point. In higher waters, it may be difficult to paddle against, and when lower, impossible!! But head West to head towards Long Load. landing point marked there.

New Kayaker keen to meet kayakers and go on river ventures.

This weir is a high drop, but if approaching downstream, the section to your right, (left on the map) is private, but if nobody's looking... That's the only way round it, or turn round and go back.

Place to start or end at. Parking right by the water. The River Yeo can get very reedy between here and Ilchester, and shallow towards Ilchester too in Summer. See weir to the West of this point marked with private pass by.
