An amazing and varied route through the wild country on the Swedish-Norwegian border. The portages are many, and some are extremely rough and/or long. The lakes are big and unforgiving, Rogen and Femunden having a bad reputation for suddenly getting blowy with huge fetches. The rivers are fun but many rapids are too hard for touring canoes. However the country is magnificent, the journey highly rewarding, and the experience one to remember for ever.

Our version took 12 days, with just 1 rest day and two half days. Exploring the "Thousand Lakes" north of Rogen itself recommended in addition to the main route - we just touched on these.

Thank you to "The Welsh Rivers" for highlighting this one:

"There's a large tree on the Bethesda section of the Ogwen. Just after you pass under the metal footbridge in town, almost completely blocking the run in to Bethesda falls. At a medium level it was passable with extreme care."
